PROJECT 1

In this project, we were tasked with creating tattoo stamps that will be converted into a 3D model. This project aims to introduce design elements and principles as well as transformation to students. Examples of elements are lines, shape, color, value, form, texture, and space. As for principles, those are balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, rhythm, unity, variety, etc. For transformation, there are sliding, overlapping, interlocking, etc.

Design Intention

As a group, our intention was to focus on points and lines and try out a variety of design principles which we then started to modify and simplify where we started to focus on a circular design using points and lines and harmony as our design elements and principle in the later stages of the project.

Design Process

We started by drawing random shapes where we then started to improve after understanding about shapes, elements, and principles that we are able to express our intention into our geometric stamps. After finalizing the selection of elements and principles, we developed new tattoo stamps which will then be finalized and selected to transform into the 3D form.

After selection, we started to make models based on the tattoo stamps. At first, some models lacked the design intention that was expressed in the geometric stamps but after a few discussions with the tutor, we finally managed to bring out our design intentions in our models and we started focusing on design and aesthetics.

Reflection

I learned about design elements and principles and how they can affect the aesthetics of the design. I found out how each category of elements or principles influences the visual impact of each design in its own ways.
